Mary Webb (b. 1942) is a British abstract artist whose work is alive with bright colours and bold patterns.

Mary was born in London and studied Fine Art at Newcastle University and Chelsea School of Art. Her career has been dedicated to the exploration of abstract form though painting and printmaking.

Mary Webb, Siena II, 2005. Part of the Paintings in Hospitals collection.

Influenced by her friend, the late Sonia Delaunay, Mary's works are consistently square in shape and exist as an arrangement of vivid squares, triangles and rectangles. She says that:

Colour is my main concern, and the emotional and spatial sensations it can evoke, frequently linked to the memory of place...

Mary often creates her work in series and names the artworks after places she has visited. Series in the Paintings in Hospitals collection include: Siena (Italy), San Luis (Argentina), Val D’Elsa (Italy) and San Filippo (Italy).

Key facts: We have 12 prints and one painting by Mary Webb in the Paintings in Hospitals collection.
