Our art collection is the only national loan collection dedicated to inspiring better health and wellbeing.

Our collection began in 1959 as the very first art collection with the specific purpose of improving patient’s health. Since then, our collection has grown to hold over 4,000 artworks, including drawings, paintings, prints, sculptures, photographs, textiles and digital pieces.

Over 2,000 artists are represented in the collection, including Bridget Riley, Antony Gormley, Andy Warhol, Josef Albers, Anish Kapoor, Gillian Ayres, Ian Davenport, Maggi Hambling, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Elizabeth Blackadder, Quentin Blake, Helen Chadwick, Alexander Calder, Catherine Yass, Ben Rivers and Sonia Boyce.

We know that when carefully selected and displayed, artworks from our collection have the power to transform intimidating clinical environments into care spaces that encourage, enrich and empower people.

All types of health and social care organisations can borrow from our art collection, and everyone is welcome to participate in our talks, tours and workshops inspired by it.
