Paintings in Hospitals patron Dame Stephanie Shirley launches new book in aid of Autistica…

Covid-19 stopped us all in our tracks. Life as we knew it was on hold. For Paintings in Hospitals patron Dame Stephanie, lockdown was an opportunity to gather together her favourite speeches into a book, So To Speak. It focuses on her refugee childhood, her software company for women, her late son’s autism, and the joy she takes in venture philanthropy.

Dame Stephanie, or 'Steve' as she likes to be known, is a workplace revolutionary and successful IT entrepreneur turned ardent philanthropist. She has given away almost £70m to different projects, including to Paintings in Hospitals in 2013 allowing us to research and develop our Art & Autism programme. Her late son Giles was autistic and she founded the autism research charity Autistica in 2004 to progress understanding of the condition. Now every penny from sales of So To Speak will go to support Autistica.

So To Speak is available now, with all proceeds supporting Autistica.

With no time to find a publisher, Dame Stephanie commissioned the London based agency, Deep, to design something very special. The result is a beautiful golden hardback book that makes for an inspirational read. Find out more about So To Speak via Dame Stephanie’s website.

So To Speak is available now in hardback for a minimum donation of £25.00 to Autistica.
