Number 68 in our '70 Ways Art Improves Our Health' explains how dance boosts both mental and physical wellbeing for older people...

Dancing for older people has a range of benefits from improving physical health to creating strong social connections.

We know that physical activity improves both health and life expectancy. Dance can have a variety of benefits for us at any stage in our life. But dance for older people can help support brain function, reduce risk of heart and circulatory problems, and reduce the risk of falls (which cost the NHS £2.3bn every year).

Keeping us physically active isn’t the only benefit dancing can provide in later life. It can also improve our mental wellbeing. Research shows that participating in social dance activities can keep us connected to our community and keep us interested in everyday life.
