Louise Butler Adams: 'Red Arrangement 2'

Louise Butler Adams (born 1970) studied painting at the Royal Academy. Working from her rural studio in North Essex, she paints contemplative still lives in oil with a complex and rich colour palette. There is a taut contrast in her paintings between the acutely observed domestic objects that occupy the foreground and the more abstract forms and areas of colour in the background. In some of her works these backgrounds are suggestive of landscapes, however these areas are never over-defined, they become spaces into which the viewer can dream.

Talking about her recent work the artist says: "These paintings have grown from a love and absorption of home. The objects collected, treasures brought home from walks, stones and glass, pieces held from generations before."

Louise has had various solo exhibitions in London. She lives and works near Saffron Walden in Essex.
