This webinar is part of Paintings in Hospitals' I’m Fine Project, designed to improve nurses’ mental health and wellbeing through online learning and a comprehensive resource publication.

Chaired by Sandra Bruce-Gordon, Director & Chief Executive of Paintings in Hospitals, this webinar event will see guests discuss and share examples of how approaches to using the arts are helping in supervision and education, mental health support, and the provision of self-care for nurses.

Following this webinar, a learning resource to help nurses utilise the arts to care for their own wellbeing while caring for others will be made available to all online for free.

The I’m Fine Project is led by Professor Marion Lynch, a nurse with 38 years of experience in clinical care and education, and is supported by the Burdett Trust for Nursing.

Speakers

• Dr Mary E Black is a public health doctor. She is former Board Clinical Director and Head of Health Protection at Public Health Scotland. Her unusual CV includes establishing a medical school in North Queensland, working with the World Health Organization and UNICEF in the Balkans, and starting two successful tech companies. She has also worked for the 2012 London Olympics, and as a Director of Public Health in London. Mary is a trustee of Paintings in Hospitals.

• Joanne Bosanquet MBE is Chief Executive of the Foundation of Nursing Studies (FoNS) and Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey. In 2013, following experience working on pandemic flu in 2009 and in the London Olympics Health Protection Team in 2012, Joanne received an MBE for services to health and nursing.

• Professor Nicky Lambert is an Associate Professor at Middlesex University, where she is Director of Teaching and Learning for Mental Health and Social Work. She is registered as a Specialist Practitioner and is a Senior Teaching Fellow. She is also a co-director of the Centre for Coproduction in Mental Health and Social Care.

• Joan Pons Laplana is Project Choice Area Manager at Health Education England. He is a nurse and activist who has made significant contributions to raising awareness of nursing issues through his social media and press profile. In 2018, he was named the British Journal of Nursing's Nurse of Year. Joan returned to the frontline during the peaks of the COVID pandemic and has spoken publicly about the effects of this experience on his mental health. He is the author of Destiny & Hope, an account of his life as a nurse in the UK.

• Dr Marion Lynch is a Nurse and Consultant in International Health Systems, Quality Improvement, and Innovation. She was formerly Deputy Medical Director at NHS England, South East. A portfolio career with academic opportunities, including receiving her Doctorate, has led to roles including Programmes Lead for Patient Leadership at the NHS Leadership Academy in the Thames Valley. Marion is also a Visiting Professor in Dementia Care at the University of West London. Marion is a trustee of Paintings in Hospitals.

• Nichole McIntosh FRSA is Regional Head of Nursing and Midwifery (London) at Health Education England. Nichole is a blogger, podcaster, motivational speaker, and poet with extensive experience in a range of acute healthcare NHS settings and in clinical quality. In November 2019 she was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts in recognition of her work as a blogger and poet and her advocacy of poetry as a tool to support mental health and wellbeing.

• Dr Thirusha Naidu is a clinical psychologist and head of unit at King Dinuzulu Hospital Complex and a lecturer in the department of Behavioural Medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. An author, poet and art lover, she is also a fellow of the Karolinska Institute Prize for Research in Medical Education.

• Sandra Bruce-Gordon FRSA is Director & Chief Executive of Paintings in Hospitals. She has worked on the development of cultural services for the past 20 years. Sandra was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts in 2018 for her work preserving cultural venues.
