About the role:

Paintings in Hospitals is looking for an experienced, flexible, and knowledgeable Collection Coordinator with experience of preparing and installing artworks and a practical understanding of collections management.

The post-holder will play a vital role in the care and management of the Paintings in Hospitals collection across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Working closely with the Director & Chief Executive and the Strategic Engagement Committee, the post-holder will champion better access to the collection through documentation, maintenance, and accessioning and deaccessioning of works. The post-holder will also be responsible for organising the transportation, installation, and deinstallation of artworks for our care partner sites across the country.

With a track record of achieving targets and two years’ experience of working with art collections, the post-holder will be able to make the most of 2.5 days a week through a strong desire to get more art from the Paintings in Hospitals collection on public display. The post-holder will lead a collections care volunteer team and will have excellent communication, problem solving, practical, interpersonal, and IT skills.

We are partnered with 315 care organisations across the UK, lending our artworks and facilitating creative workshops. The Paintings in Hospitals collection holds over 3,700 artworks, including pieces Bridget Riley, Antony Gormley, Maggi Hambling, Yinka Shonibare, Helen Chadwick, Anish Kapoor, Elizabeth Blackadder, Josef Albers, Anni Albers, Gillian Ayres, Ben Rivers, Catherine Yass, Alexander Calder, Dame Elisabeth Frink, Ian Davenport and many more. In 2020 Paintings in Hospitals partnered with Google Arts & Culture and artist Tom Croft for Healthcare Heroes, an exhibition of #PortraitsforNHSHeroes. The charity has previously partnered with the National Gallery, V&A, Arts Council Collection, Wallace Collection, and Hayward Gallery.
