Alexandra Hon's winning design from the inaugural Paintings in Hospitals Christmas card competition is now available to buy on our online shop.

Earlier this year, Paintings in Hospitals began our search for an artwork by an emerging artist to feature on one of our charity’s seasonal greetings cards. The winning artwork was to be produced as a Christmas card and sold on the Paintings in Hospitals online shop to help to raise money for our work bringing the benefits of art and creativity to patients and care staff across the country.

We received many wonderful entries from exceptionally talented artists. Dreaming of a White Christmas’ by artist Alexandra Hon was chosen by our panel of judges for its use of unusual imagery and the beautiful personal inspiration behind it. Alexandra Hon is a painter and printmaker based in the UK. She is best known for her images of elaborate interior spaces incorporated into various narratives, focusing on the complexities and conundrums of interpersonal relationships.

Alexandra Hon, Dreaming of a White Christmas, Card Pack of 10. Made in the UK.

Alexandra Hon said:

“Dreaming of a White Christmas holds a special place in my heart as the image symbolises three things: my late mother's love for Japanese printmaking; her wish to travel to Kyoto; and her dream of experiencing a White Christmas, whilst she spent most of her life living in Malaysia.

Hospitals around the world have gone through a massive ordeal in fighting Covid-19. Despite the overwhelming workload the NHS faced, their quality of care was never compromised during the last days of my father-in-law's life when he lost his battle with cancer on Boxing Day 2020.

Contributing my artwork to benefit carers across the country is my way of showing appreciation for everything they've done.”
