We are thrilled to announce we have received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund for our care homes project in South Wales.

All our work at Paintings in Hospitals is driven by our communities and their needs. This funding will help us to bring art and creativity to even more people in care, who have fought isolation and loneliness throughout the pandemic.

Over the course of a year, our care homes project will provide long-term artwork exhibitions and creative workshop activities to the residents of care homes across South Wales.

Our aims with this project are to:

• Improve the care home setting
• Increase equity of access to art
• Use art therapeutically to maximise wellbeing
• Stimulate minds
• Open discussions
• Provide new experiences
• Create or and further an interest in art

Sandra Bruce-Gordon FRSA, Director & Chief Executive of Paintings in Hospitals, said:

“We are delighted that the National Lottery Community Fund is supporting Paintings in Hospitals’ work in South Wales. Over the next year, our project will provide art displays and creative activities for people in care homes across the region.

Care staff and residents will work with our team to select artworks from the Paintings in Hospitals collection that are both meaningful and beneficial to them, which will then go on long term exhibition in their shared spaces. The chosen artworks will also provide inspiration for a range of workshops and activities, such as storytelling, painting, and poetry, available to staff, residents and their friends and family.

Art is proven to help us stay well and to stimulate our minds and our memories. Covid-19 taught us all the true value of connection with creativity, with culture, and with other people. After the isolation brought about by the pandemic, we feel that art is the perfect way to reconnect with each other. We would like to give huge thanks to National Lottery players who have made this project possible in such challenging times.”
