The Foundling Museum tells the moving history of the Foundling Hospital, the visionary 18th century initiative that brought philanthropy, art and music together to care for abandoned children. The museum has an eminent collection of paintings including works by Hogarth, Gainsborough and Reynolds as well as a new room displaying the Gerald Coke Handel Collection of memorabilia relating to the life and work of another of the Foundlings Hospitals principal supporters, George Frideric Handel.
In addition to the tour, there is a short gallery talk on William Hogarth’s painting ‘The March of the Guards to Finchley’ at 2pm and a concert (early 20th century music: the programme includes Martinu’s trio, along with cello and flute solos in the Picture Gallery) from 4pm – 5pm. Lunch and teas are available at the Coram Café which is attached to the Museum.
