Anne-Catherine Phillips, ‘Tying Pointes’, oil on canvas, 2005
Young girls taking their first steps in ballet and older ladies gathering to share their enjoyment of embroidery make up the twin subjects of this show. It comprises paintings, etchings, sketches and clay models that all try to capture the spirit of intense concentration shared by both groups, contrasting the hesitant youthful excitement of the one with the calm serenity of the other.

The show is entitled ABSENCE as it features work which explores landscapes, cityscapes and interiors which are devoid of the human life that created them.
Where there should be crowds, bustle, excitement, people going about their daily business – there is emptiness, silence, absence
As well as being beautiful, the paintings examine the impermanence of humanity – inviting us to imagine what might remain once we are gone.
The artists draw on techniques used by mapmakers as well as more traditional fine art motifs. The paintings are made with a variety of media including acrylic on canvas, oil on glass and oil on board.

32: The Collective works brings together an exciting array of works from the 2005 graduates ofCanterbury Christ Church University College. It collaborates four specialist disciplines; painting, sculpting, ceramics and printmaking. All four of these subject areas have a strong emphasis on drawing.
The wide range of exhibited works includes both conceptual and perceptual art, together with traditional elements. This unique exhibition offers a stimulating collection of diverse creativity.
Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

ArtCast is the group name for sixteen Somerset College HND Fine Art students, whose graduation work is being exhibited. The ArtCast exhibition was previously at the Brewhouse Gallery, Taunton. The students have also taken part in the Appledore Arts Festival in Devon, where their art won praise for its innovative qualities and professionalism. Their work ranges through painting, sculpture, installations and video. All the planning, production, fund raising and publicity for this exhibition has been carried out by the students as part of the ‘Professional Practice Module’ on their course, which prepares them for life as professional artists.

A photography exhibition to promote a better understanding of refugees. The exhibition will consist of between 12 – 15 portrait shots. The subjects will reflect the cultural, economic and social contribution that refugees make to the capital and showcase alternative histories.
The portraits will be accompanied by text, detailing in their own words, the subjects’ reasons for fleeing their countries of origin, their life and career in the home countries and how that contrasts to their lives in the UK.
After the initial showing the exhibition will tour local school and libraries in South and East London.
