*The Gallery is managed by Paintings in Hospitals (PiH), a registered charity which lends contemporary works of art to hospitals. All income generated from the hire of the gallery goes directly to support the work of the charity.
Exhibition Space
The Menier Gallery provides a unique venue to exhibit original works of art and/or host promotional events. The gallery is situated within the old Menier Chocolate Factory and is located within the heart of London’s artistic centre and attracts local passing traffic a few minutes walk from London Bridge Tube Station, Borough Market and Tate Modern. The gallery offers wheelchair access, however this is available to the ground floor gallery only.
Ground Floor Gallery
The main exhibition space is located on the ground floor of the building and can be accessed via either Southwark Street or an internal connecting doorway between the Chocolate Factory Restaurant and Theatre, which share the building.
The ground floor gallery offers approximately 1500 sqft of exhibition space (see floor plan) with a mixture of exposed brickwork and white display walls. Two fixed interior walls, located within the centre of the room, divide the space. Directional spotlights located within tracks in the ceiling light the space. Additional wall partitions enable the space to be sub-divided further if required. The gallery has 3 large windows facing onto Southwark Street.
Lower Ground Floor Gallery
The lower ground floor gallery (1500 sqft) mirrors the floor plan above and offers exhibitors additional space. Stairs located to the side of the ground floor gallery provide the main access point to this gallery, which is suitable for displaying most types of work. The space is divided by floating interior walls and is lit by directional spot mounted lights within tracks in the ceiling.
This space provides an excellent environment in which to display works of a multimedia nature. The space is only available for hire in conjunction with the ground floor and is available for a limited number of fortnights per year.
NB: There is no smoking is either gallery at any time and wheelchair access is limited to the ground floor gallery only
Opening Times
The gallery is open between 10:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Saturday (excluding UK bank holidays and some Mondays when exhibitions are being installed).
